Medical consulting and diagnosis is based on a model whereby the total system consists of subsystems, categories, features and feature-values. Each category (i.e. a disease) is characterized by a category-feature-relationship characterized in turn by significant features which include history, physical exam and lab data as well as images and text.

Each subsystem consists of a subset of the categories along with their features (with feature-values).

When findings are presented for a selected subsystem, each category has a calculated, category-likelihood value allowing for the presentation of a differential diagnosis consisting of ranked categories.

There are three levels within the system:

Level I provides for the user to select a subsystem and then view the categories, features and category-feature-relationships (including images and text) for the categories in that subsystem.

Level II provides for the user to select a subsystem and view groups of categories where each group satisfies previously computed logical relationships among the features.

Level III allows the user to input findings for a particular case and selected subsystem to obtain a differential diagnosis.
